Process Summary:

Many plumbers contend that the most common cause of tankless water heater failure is due to lack of this important maintenance.

Please expect your hot water to be off for two hours.
This means that you can water your plants, boil your coffee, and use the restroom
(but no hot water for washing up).
Descaling your tankless water heater is done using the following procedure ...
Initial testing
Isolate the water heater from the home
Depending upon the model of the water heater, it may be shut down at this time
Drain the water
Clean and replace all water filters
Remove the cover and clean and replace air filters
Run acid* through the water heater for one hour to remove built up minerals
Drain acid* from the water heater
Rinse the water heater out for a period set by manufacturer's specifications
Exercise the temperature/pressure relief valve
Turn the water heater back on
Final testing of the water heater with viewing of the burner
Ensure that the customer is receiving hot water in the home
